Pit looms have been used for production of maheshwari sarees since them ancient times, where heavy, wooden handlooms were installed in a pit, about three feet deep. The weaver sits on the wall of this pit with his legs inside, as the pit loom is not moved form its place for years together. Different dyes are used to prepare maheshwari sarees, with an authentic blend of silk and exotic colours, them geometric contours on the sarees have made them a famous handicraft of India.
Chanderi sarees are produced from three different kinds of products: silk cotton, pure silk, and chanderi cotton. Traditional coins and floral items are woven on sarees, which makes them authentic in their own rights, making them very different from Maheshwari sarees, who in turn have checks and stripes on their body.
