WOMEN
SALWAR KAMEEZ
Salwar kameez, is a traditional outfit originated from the Indian subcontinent. It is a colloquial term used to describe a massive collection of dresses. The salwar kameez can be worn by both men and women, but styles differ by gender. The salwar (pantaloons) and the kameez (body shirt), are two garments combined to form the salwar kameez.
GAGRA CHOLI (LEHANGA)
The choli is cut out to tightly fit the body along with short sleeves and a low neck. The choli is usually cropped, allowing exposure of the midriff. A form of skirt which is long, embroidered and pleated. It is worn as the bottom portion of a Gagra choli. It is secured at the waist and leaves the lower back and midriff bare.
SAREE
The word saree as described in sanskrit translates to a “strip of cloth”, which is 4-8 metres long, and 0.6-1.2 metres wide, and is typically wrapped around the waist, with one end draped around the shoulder, leaving the midriff bare.
KURTI
In everyday language a short kurta or a kurta worn by women is referred to as a kurti, . However, traditionally the term kurti is a synonym for waist coats and blouses. In a kurti the midriff is covered, distinctly distinguishing it from the choli.
MEN
KURTA PYJAMA
Kurta is basically a loose shirt which is almost as long as the wearer’s knees, with its sleeves falling onto his wrists, it can or cannot be collarless, depending upon the whims and fancies of its wearer. Whereas, pyjama is what people wear as their lower body clothing, which are either tapered on their ankles or fit to be loose.
DHOTI
Dhoti is a traditional men’s garment, worn in the indian subcontinent. Dhoti is basically a piece of unstitched cloth, mostly as long as 4.5 metres, and wrapped around the wearer’s waist and legs, finally knotted into the waist.
SHERWANI
Sherwani is a long coat-like garment worn in the Indian subcontinent, very similar to a British frock coat. It was traditionally associated with the Indian subcontinent. It is worn over a kurta with the combination of either churidar, dhoti, pyjama, or a salwar as the lower-body clothing.
PAGADI
It specifically refers to a headdress that is worn by men and needs to be manually tied.
WAISTCOAT
Waistcoat is a sleeveless upper-body garment. Which is usually worn over a shirt and a necktie, below the coat as a part of men’s formal wear. It is also sported as the third piece in the traditional three-piece male business suit.
